Planning was divided in two stages: the first one consist of two volumes, one for the offices and training roomsand the other for high-complexity laboratories. The second stage will add an auditorium to the complex.
Taking into account the local weather, a series of sustainable measures were designed, such as cross-ventilation in all the spaces and a north-south orientation for the main façades in order to avoid the effect of the sun in the west. Furthermore the glazed interior surfaces were protected by tree “curtains” and a reflecting pool to avoid the “heat island” effect. The building skin was developed with high performance thermal insulation panels and top-of-the-range aluminum work, with hermetically sealed double-glazing to reduce heat loss and save energy.
